Caius Blackthorne is a Crossbowman in the service of the Ducal Council of Electors. In the most recent civil war Caius was ordered by his commanding officer to execute a prisoner without trial, under grounds of treason. Caius refused, causing his officer to lash out with a sword. Caius barely dodged the attack, which left a nasty scar along his left jaw. As the officer came about for a second attack, Caius shot him through the heart with his already loaded crossbow. Caius untied the prisoner and fled the scene.
Due to the heavy amount of bloodshed and death sustained in the civil war, the death of the officer wasn’t noticed. Nevertheless, Caius left the service of the Council and spent some time in the wilderness, out of fear of being connected to the incident. In this time Caius honed his survival skills and also his skill with the crossbow, using it to hunt. Caius began to offer his services as a mercenary to various rural lords in order to accrue some wealth, and eventually returned to Council, working with the Dukes and nobles for whatever jobs required a stealthy approach. Caius wears a hood and a cloth over the lower half of his face, hiding his scar. The only person to know his crime is the prisoner he freed, who is still out there somewhere.
